Pedro's Sophisticated Blends Outperform Synthetic Lubes

Twenty years ago, people began to use Synthetics over basic petroleum for primarily two reasons:

  1. Longer life of the synthetic basestock preventing oxidation and oil breakdown over time longer than conventional oils.
  2. Enhanced additive properties – Synthetic basestocks have poorer additive solubility versus petroleum oil, enabling the additives to release from the oil and to associate with metal surfaces easier than conventional lubricants.

Vegetable/Synthetic Engineered blends such as Go! are the next horizon.

All three of Pedro’s veggie products (GO!, Chainj, and Bio-Grease) are vegetable/synthetic mixtures and fully bio-degradable.   We supplement the vegetable oil to perform like a synthetic basestock.  From an oxidation characteristic, our vegetable oils will last just as long as our current Synlube product and other synthetics.

Why they perform better:

Vegetable oils are larger, three-chain, molecules versus petroleum oils.  The ester functional group of the vegetable oil has a slight negative charge.  For one vegetable oil molecule, there are essentially three slight negative charges.

This charge enables the vegetable oil to also act as an additive, providing these key performance advantages:

1) Getting to metal surfaces to prevent rust and metal protection.  The slight negative charge of the vegetable oil associates ionically with the positive metal surface, creating a protective barrier on the surface.

2) Anti-wear protection in a case of two metal surfaces coming in contact under a load.  Also, the vegetable oils are more slippery, enabling the metal surfaces to slide easier, reducing friction.  This makes GO! a good general lubricant.  The Synlube product is supplemented with anti-wear, friction reducing additives.  Because of the characteristic of its basestock, less additive is needed in Go!, increasing environmental awareness and friendliness.

 3) Penetrating – The negative charge, molecule size, and viscosity of both Chainj and Go! products make them much better penetrants versus synthetic lubricants.  This is beneficial when trying to unfreeze rusty bolts around the maintenance shop, as these products are able to get into the cracks and help to remove these frozen bolts.

4)Cleaning – Vegetable oil is a great solvent.  Chainj and GO! oils will have excellent solvency versus a Synthetic product.

5) these products are derived from sustainable sources. There is no need to drill in unsavory places and burn up a limited resource of increasing value, especially to operate a planet saving machine such as the bicycle.

These five points would show Go! and its sister product Chainj outperforming synthetics.
