Ice Wax 2.0
Natural Wax, Dry Chain Lubricant
- Detergent carrier pushes out dirt & grime during application
- Wax base dries to protective barrier coat for long-lasting performance
- Biodegradable, self-cleaning wax properties requires less degreasing
Pedro's natural wax dry lubricant designed for dry to mixed conditions. Pedro's Ice Wax 2.0 has been engineered with advanced chemistry to provide a wet application that uses a unique detergent carrier to help push contaminants from the chain. Once dry, the wax forms a dry coating on the surfaces of the chain which provides excellent lubrication, efficiency, and wear protection. Though best in dry conditions the coating of wax also repels water from puddles or stream crossings. As an added bonus, as Ice Wax 2.0 slowly wears off over time, any contamination on the chain is removed with the wax leaving a cleaner chain.
Ice Wax 2.0 is Pedro's simplest lubrication option with low maintenance due to the self cleaning nature. This premium lubricant earns it price by requiring less frequent degreasing and less time scrubbing your chain. The key to getting peak performance out of Pedro's Ice Wax 2.0 is allowing the lubricant to dry or "set up" on the chain. After applying Ice Wax 2.0 to the chain, cycle the drivetrain to evenly coat all surfaces. Then allow 1 hour of more for the lubricant to dry before riding. We suggest applying the night before a ride for the absolute best performance.
To get the best performance from your chain lubricant, it is important to choose one that matches your riding conditions. Pedro’s offers a lubricant for all types of conditions from dry desert riding to the mud and snow of a New England cross race. Each bottle of Pedro’s chain lubricant offers a Conditions Guide with easy to understand icons to help you choose the correct lubricant. These can also be found on each product page. The following provides a general overview for our four lubricants:
Ice Wax 2.0: Natural wax dry lubricant designed for dry to limited mixed conditions.
Go!: Biodegradable, low viscosity, wet lubricant for clean and dry to mixed conditions.
Chainj: Biodegradable, medium viscosity, wet lubricant for mixed to wet conditions.
Syn Lube: Synthetic lubricant for extreme wet and dirty conditions and maximum longevity.
Properly applying lubricant will ensure you get the best performance possible. Check out our Guide: How to Lube Your Chain to learn the proper technique.
Clearly it is important for a chain lube to perform well and be long lasting. So why would you want it to biodegrade? Take a look at the write-up Should Chain Lube Biodegrade? to get a quick look at how biodegradation works and reasons why choosing biodegradable chain lube might be a better for your bike, for you, and for the planet.
We’ve seen a number of cases where Ice Wax 2.0 has thickened in the bottle. This is not the intended state of Ice Wax 2.0 and we are actively pursuing a long term solution. The good news, and the reason we have not recalled Ice Wax 2.0, is that it still works very well as a lubricant. The thicker lube can be applied to the chain as normal and then worked into the chain with one’s fingers. A second option, if you don’t mind a little tinkering, is to add isopropyl alcohol (70%) to the Ice Wax 2.0 to help thin out the lube. It only takes a small amount to achieve this. We suggest 0.5fl-oz be added to for 3.5 fl-oz of lube. Simply add the isopropyl and shake the bottle vigorously for about a minute. This will lower the viscosity and allow the lube to be applied normally. Lastly, if you do not want to bother with the modified method of application, we will replace your lube at no cost, or send you another Pedro’s product of similar value. - Always shake well before use.
- Apply lubricant to rollers of the chain while backpedaling drivetrain.
- For best performance, wait at least 1 hour.
- Before riding use a rag to wipe off all excess lubricant from outside surfaces of chain.
