Jeff Groman and
Paul Johnson of Classic Cycle.
Congratulations to Jeff Groman and Els
Heyne, owners of Classic Cycle on
Bainbridge Island, WA for qualifying as
a 5-star EnviroStars business! The
EnviroStars program recognizes
businesses for reducing and properly
managing their hazardous waste.
Environmental stewardship is important
to Classic Cycle. The shop uses less
toxic products such as Pedro’s Oranj
Peelz degreaser and CHAINJ sustainable
lube.
“I’ve Been using CHAINj now for a few
months instead of T9” reports chief
mechanic and bicycle Guru Paul Johnson.
“The bikes are quieter and running more
smoothly when they come back into the
shop. And, the rash I was getting on my
hands has stopped.”
Classic Cycle also reduces solid waste
by recycling all of their paper,
cardboard, glass bottles, and aluminum
cans. Used inner tubes are brought to
nearby Seattle where Alchemy Goods turns
them into bags and wallets. Used bike
chains are sent to Oregon where they are
brought back to life as picture frames
and wall clocks.
Customers can always learn more ways to
reduce waste as they maintain their
bicycles in repair classes offered at
Classic Cycle.
Classic Cycle is located in the heart of
downtown Winslow on Bainbridge Island.
They can be found at 740 Winslow Way
East or on the web at:
www.classiccycleus.com.
